Rebecca Long Observer The Disney+ Willow series was a breath of fresh air, harkening back to a bygone era of onscreen epic fantasy more focused on being delightful than profound. Rated: B May 17, 2023 Full Review Nick Schager The Daily Beast Sustained interest, however, will be stymied by a cast of largely bland new characters and, more pressing still, a dearth of sweeping excitement. Jan 30, 2023 Full Review Heather Hogan Autostraddle Willow gives us the lesbian Disney princess we've been waiting for, Jan 13, 2023 Full Review Pramit Chatterjee Digital Mafia Talkies There is a kind of simplicity, a sense of comfort, and an air of whimsy to the show that puts it right in the middle of the Shakespearean self-seriousness of The Rings of Power and the edgy self-seriousness of House of the Dragon. Rated: 4/5 Jul 20, 2023 Full Review Erin Maxwell LA Weekly/Village Voice Willow’s fantasy realm is filled with disproportionate contemporary sensibilities and inconsistent rules, and its Spotify ’80s hits playlist only makes things worse. Ultimately, the heart of the original movie is missing. Feb 23, 2023 Full Review Aaron Phillips But Why Tho? A Geek Community Willow Season 1 was an entertaining ride that I felt privileged to watch after growing up with the film....Kasdan has managed to conjure a story that serves as a love letter the 1988 film and in the same breath expands the lore and world-building. Michael G There was potential for a good show, but the story developed too slowly and the characters were not likable for too many episodes. I cant see how it scores so high with the critics, it get me wondering why... Rated 1/5 Stars •Rated 1 out of 5 stars06/22/24 Full Review T S I tried watching this series. They made it again not about the story of willow but another story the one no one wants to pay money to see. Shocked to see the score here so high. So bad Disney pulled it from streaming. Original movie was great. So sad to see this as the follow up. When at least 60% of reviews for a movie or TV show are positive, it is considered Fresh and a red tomato is displayed. Rotten score. When less than 60% of reviews for a movie or TV show are positive, it is considered Rotten and a green splat is displayed.
Anyone can vote or rate movies on Rotten Tomatoes if you're an audience member, but you can also filter out ratings from those not considered “verified.”
Overall this is a pretty well done movie. The special effects are dated but the plot is solid. Typical of any George Lucas movie "outside" of the first 2 Star Wars films there are way too many goofy moments and too many instances of poor dialogue that it almost ruins the movie.
The website keeps track of all the reviews counted for each film and calculates the percentage of positive reviews. If the positive reviews make up 60% or more, the film is considered "fresh". If the positive reviews are less than 60%, the film is considered "rotten".
If 60% of reviews are positive, the movie is given a “Fresh” status, but if positive reviews fall below that benchmark, it is deemed “Rotten.” A popular piece of media will typically fall between the 70-90% range, but rarely, a project will receive a 100% score. This means every last review from critics was positive.
On the film review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, films that every surveyed critic considered bad have a 0% rating. As of 2023, only 40 films with more than 20 reviews have received this rating.
Disney canceled the television series after only one eight-episode season, and then it pulled the show off of Disney+ entirely for cost-cutting measures.
'Willow' Will Not Return for Season 2 at Disney+ - IMDb. The “Willow” TV series is done after just one season at Disney+, Variety has confirmed. The news comes around two months after the high fantasy series aired its eighth and final episode, with the show having debuted in November 2022 and airing until January 2023.
First things first, watch the original movie “Willow” (1988). Starring Warwick Davis in the titular role alongside Val Kilmer as Madmartigan and Joanne Whalley as Sorsha, the film has a similar vibe to “The Princess Bride” (1987) as it tells a story of destiny, magic and love.
Willow was removed from Disney+ earlier this year as part of a cost-cutting measure that saw dozens of shows exit the service, as well as Hulu, on May 26. Other popular shows that found themselves axed were The World According To Jeff Goldblum and Y: The Last Man.
The majority of filming took place in Dinorwic quarry in Wales with some at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire, as well as a small section in New Zealand. Industrial Light & Magic created the visual effects sequences, which led to a revolutionary breakthrough with digital morphing technology.
A place where all the critic reviews are Fresh, as far as the eye can see, without a Rotten mark to disrupt all the 1s and their attendant 0s in the percentage scores. It's a tough road for a movie to get a 100% with critics, fraught with peril.
It's one of many businesses that help independent filmmakers get reviews for their movies that can count toward the all-important Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer rating. For the service, it pays some reviewers $50 per review.
