Instead of a battery, the Vivaro-e HYDROGEN is powered by a 45 kW hydrogen fuel cell. This Fuel Cell technology is so compact that the charging capacity and loading volume are fully maintained. With a large range of 400 kilometers and a refueling time of approximately five minutes, these cars offer all the benefits of emission-free driving, without compromising on efficiency.

🇳🇱 The Netherlands is missingThe reason the Netherlands isn't in the running at the moment has to do with the country's grid usage regulations, Nijs explains. Unlike Belgium, the Netherlands considers battery park owners to be users of the grid, subject to transportation costs. According to Energy Storage Netherlands (ESNL), an industry association, these costs can amount to 80% of the operating costs of a battery project. Belgium, on the other hand, classifies battery companies as energy producers, exempt from transportation costs.Just last week, Minister Rob Jetten (Climate, D66) decided to offer a 65% reduction in transport costs in the Netherlands. But Nijs believes this is not enough. Rates have risen significantly in recent years, so a rebate offers little assurance that costs won't rise again. The investment in batteries is simply much harder to justify in the Netherlands than in other European countries. The European legislation pushes hard for the electrification of car and truck mobility. Good for the environment but bad for European business. The European excellence in designing and manufacturing the best ICEs is a such becoming obsolete. The new EV drive trains require a lot less electromechanical know-how and that will have a significant impact on the amount of jobs at the European OEMs and their suppliers. These European companies have started the switch to EVs but are still lagging behind on the software to make these cars efficient. However, one can question if the mining of minerals, the manufacturing and the required recycling of these huge car batteries is really environmental friendly. To tackle that, the Dumarey Group believes the alternative is a hydrogen powered drivetrain that uses a modified internal combustion engine, only to release water at the exhaust. It would certainly have a minimal impact on the environment and probably allow the European car industry to maintain its technology leadership.
