The actress revealed that she found out her ex-boyfriend cheated by going through his phone, something she says she is not proud of
Hunter Schafer had a vulnerable conversation about what happened between her and ex-boyfriend Dominic Fike.
The Euphoria star gave some insight into why she and her co-star broke up during an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast on Wednesday, Aug. 7, and said cheating had a hand in their relationship ultimately not working out.n"Part of why the relationship ended is because I got cheated on for the first time," Hunter the actress shared with host Alex Cooper. "It’s part of my truth, but that fundamentally changed me as a person."
She shared that Dominic, 28, was the first cis, straight-identifying man she had ever dated, and she partly blamed herself for the infidelity.

"As a trans woman, with a man who has never dated that [type of person] before," she said. "Because of the way I’ve been socialized as a trans woman, it’s been this crux in my life of what life has been so hard sometimes, I was like, 'Oh, god is this it? Can I just not?'"
Kinds of Kindness star said she later realized that a person getting cheated on is not their fault, and instead the responsibility falls on the unfaithful person. "It has everything to do with that person," the Kinds of Kindness star said, "And whatever kind of pain they’re in or whatever they’re dealing with."
Although Hunter said she didn't want to share too many details about their private relationship, she shared that she found out by going into his phone. "You always know," she shared. "Because I knew, I went to the phone—which I’m not proud of."
Hunter and Dominic began dating in 2022 but called it quits a year later, in the summer of 2023. It was her first monogamous relationship. "It’s one of the cleaner breakups I’ve had. We both recognized that this is not working, and we can’t do this. We got to go our own separate ways," Hunter said. "'It was so, so hard because we really loved each other. He’s a really special person and I love his soul and everything."
Still, she is not blaming him fully for the breakup. "It was a clean parting, and he has a lot to work on. I also have a lot to work on. I think that’s also why I’m in this era of, I gotta figure my s--- out," she said. "We had a really good thing. But there were things in our own selves that had nothing to do with each other that kept coming up in the way of the relationship."
Hunter, who will be back for season 3 of Euphoria, then said she now has some qualms about being in a public relationship after being with Dominic, whose music career she said also affected their relationship. "I don’t know if I’ll ever do it again. At some point when you’re doing it, it gets just too hard,' she said. "You can try to hide it, but I’ve also come to this point just with fame in general, where, like, people are going to say what they’re going to say. I really don’t give a s---," she said.
"The thing that’s tough with musicians — or at least with successful musicians who are doing tours and stuff — and I guess it’s the same thing with actors. They have to go off for however many months [on] tour and then I’m working. It’s very hard," she shared. "I don’t know if that is, like, in my path again, because I’ve done it and I’ve tried it and really tried to make it work. It’s just very hard. At least at this point in my life, I don’t have the capacity to, like, figure out how that works. Maybe someday, though. We’ll see."
